Oops! To the Derrick Smith campaign’s credit, the flyer came with a thin, white, strip of adhesive paper to cover the glaring typo. When I first saw it, my eyes bulged. What could they be hiding? Does it say “indicted by a federal grand jury,” or “first representative to be expelled from the Illinois General Assembly in more than 100 years?”

Of course not. Why would Smith – running for his old seat – disclose those things if he doesn’t have to by law? But still, I’m wondering if that typo would have happened had Smith had the backing of the state’s Democratic Party. Instead, the party is throwing its weight behind Independent Lance Tyson – a former top aide to Todd Stroger.
