Illumination and Nintendo Move Up U.S. Release Date for “Super Mario Galaxy,” Reveal First Look at Yoshi -March 2024

Attention Super Marios Bros. fans: Yoshi is coming, and he will be hatching in theaters a few days earlier than planned.

Illumination and Nintendo said Sunday that The Super Mario Galaxy Moviewill now open in the United States and many other countries on Wednesday, April 1, 2026 moving up from April 3 (It will be released in Japan April 24, and other markets throughout the month).

The companies also debuted a first look at the most anticipated new character to join the animated universe: Yoshi, the green dinosaur that assists Mario and Luigi on their adventures. Watch the new trailer below:

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is the sequel to the smash hit 2023 Super Mario Bros. Movie, which took Nintendos iconic plumbers and turned them into their first animated feature.

Original stars including Chris Pratt (Mario), Anya Taylor-Joy (Princess Peach), Charlie Day (Luigi), Jack Black (Bowser), Keegan-Michael Key (Toad) and Kevin Michael Richardson (Kamek) will all return for the sequel, joined by Bennie Safdie (Bowser Jr.) and Brie Larson (Rosalina), as well as Yoshi.

The film is being co-financed by Universal Pictures and Nintendo, with Universal releasing the film worldwide. Itis directed by returning filmmakers Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic, from a screenplay by returning screenwriter Matthew Fogel, with Brian Tyler returning to compose the score.
