Agricultural Term: Lavender Sachets

Definition: Lavender sachets are small fabric bags filled with dried lavender flowers. They are commonly used for their pleasant fragrance and are often placed in drawers, closets, or under pillows to freshen up the surrounding area.

How to Make Lavender Sachets

Step 1: Harvesting Lavender

Start by harvesting lavender flowers when they are in full bloom. Cut the stems just above the leaves, leaving a few inches of stem attached.

Step 2: Drying Lavender

Bundle the harvested lavender stems together and hang them upside down in a cool, dry place. Allow the flowers to dry completely, which usually takes about two weeks.

Step 3: Removing Lavender Buds

Once the lavender flowers are dry, gently strip the buds from the stems. Discard any leaves or stems that may have fallen off during the drying process.

Step 4: Preparing the Fabric

Cut your desired fabric into small squares or rectangles, ensuring that they are large enough to hold a sufficient amount of lavender buds. Cotton or linen fabrics work best for sachets.

Step 5: Filling the Sachets

Place a handful of dried lavender buds in the center of each fabric square. Be careful not to overfill the sachets, as this may make them difficult to close.

Step 6: Securing the Sachets

Gather the corners of the fabric square and tie them together using a ribbon, string, or rubber band. Make sure the sachet is tightly closed to prevent the lavender buds from spilling out.

Step 7: Storing and Using Lavender Sachets

Store the finished lavender sachets in airtight containers or use them immediately. Place them in drawers, closets, or under pillows to enjoy the soothing aroma of lavender.

By following these steps, you can create your own lavender sachets to add a touch of natural fragrance to your home or to give as thoughtful gifts to friends and family.
