Jalapeño Poppers
Definition: Jalapeño poppers are a popular appetizer made from jalapeño peppers that are stuffed with a filling, typically cheese, and then breaded and deep-fried or baked until crispy.
Ingredients:
- 12 jalapeño peppers
- 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/4 teaspoon paprika
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 large eggs, beaten
- 2 cups breadcrumbs
- Vegetable oil, for frying
Instructions:
Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) if baking, or heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer or large pot if deep-frying.Wearing gloves, cut the jalapeño peppers in half lengthwise and remove the seeds and membranes. Rinse the peppers under cold water to remove any remaining seeds. In a mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, shredded cheddar cheese, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper. Mix until well combined.Using a spoon or a piping bag, fill each jalapeño half with the cheese mixture, making sure to press it down firmly. If baking, place the filled jalapeños on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the peppers are tender and the cheese is melted and slightly golden. If deep-frying, prepare a breading station by placing the flour, beaten eggs, and breadcrumbs in separate shallow bowls. Dip each filled jalapeño half into the flour, then the beaten eggs, and finally the breadcrumbs, making sure to coat evenly.Carefully place the breaded jalapeños into the hot oil and fry until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes. Remove with a slotted spoon and place on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.Serve the jalapeño poppers hot with your favorite dipping sauce, such as ranch dressing or salsa.See also How to prune a black mulberry tree?
