Feb 13, 2026 7:44 AM

Agricultural Term: Ananas Jam

Definition: Ananas jam refers to a sweet and flavorful preserve made from the tropical fruit known as Ananas comosus, commonly known as pineapple. This delicious jam is made by cooking down pineapple chunks with sugar and other ingredients to create a thick and spreadable consistency.

How to Make Ananas Jam

Step 1: Selecting and Preparing the Pineapple

Choose a ripe and fragrant pineapple for the best flavor. Look for a pineapple with a golden color and a sweet aroma. Remove the outer skin of the pineapple and cut it into small chunks, discarding the tough core.

Step 2: Cooking the Pineapple

In a large saucepan, combine the pineapple chunks with sugar, lemon juice, and a pinch of salt. The sugar helps to sweeten the jam, while the lemon juice adds a tangy flavor. Cook the mixture over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the pineapple becomes soft and releases its juices.

Step 3: Simmering and Thickening

Once the pineapple has softened, reduce the heat to low and let the mixture simmer for about 30-40 minutes. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking. As the jam simmers, it will gradually thicken and develop a rich, golden color.

Step 4: Testing for Doneness

To check if the jam has reached the desired consistency, place a small amount on a chilled plate and let it cool for a few seconds. If it wrinkles when pushed with a finger, it is ready. If not, continue simmering for a few more minutes and repeat the test until the desired consistency is achieved.

Step 5: Canning and Storing

While the jam is still hot, carefully transfer it into sterilized jars, leaving a small headspace at the top. Seal the jars tightly and process them in a boiling water bath for about 10-15 minutes to ensure proper preservation. Once cooled, store the jars in a cool, dark place for up to a year.
