How Chicago Hospitals are Engaging in Anti-Violence Work
How Chicago Hospitals are Engaging in Anti-Violence Work-April 2024
Apr 3, 2026 2:42 PM

Father’s Day weekend was a particularly violent one in Chicago, with more than 100 shootings, including 14 fatalities.

Chicago hospitals are on the front lines of healing gun violence victims, but some are taking more than just an emergency room role in what’s called the Chicago Hospital Engagement, Action and Leadership Initiative, or HEAL.

Joining to talk about their efforts are:

— Karen Teitelbaum, the president and CEO of Sinai Health System

—Brian Williams, a trauma surgeon at University of Chicago Medicine

—David Ansell, the senior vice president for community health equity at Rush University Medical Center
