Hanky Panky Cocktail

This classic cocktail made with gin, sweet vermouth, and bitter fernet was first created in the 1920s by Ada Coleman, head bartender of The Savoy Hotel’s American Bar in London, and named after actor Sir Charles Hawtrey (but not the one of Carry On film fame).

Ingredients

Makes 1 cocktail

  1½ oz. (45ml) gin

  1½ oz. (45ml) sweet vermouth

  2 dashes Fernet-Branca

Strip of orange peel, to serve

Stir gin, sweet vermouth, and Fernet-Branca with ice until chilled. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Twist a swathe of orange peel over the surface of the drink and add to glass as garnish.
