While several of the castmembers in the original Practical Magic are returning for the films sequel, Evan Rachel Wood has made it known shes not.
Following the news on Friday that Dianne WiestandStockard Channing were reprising their roles as the Owens aunts, fans were wondering if Wood could possibly return, too. However, the actress took to Instagram Stories later that day to answer peoples questions.
I am getting asked about this a lot, so lll just clear it up now; I was not asked to come back and be in the Practical Magic sequel, Wood wrote. l offered my services, even if it was one scene or one line. I was told they are recasting. I am sorry to disappoint the fans. It was not in my control or my choice. I would have happily rejoined my sisters. The Hollywood Reporter reached out to Woods reps for additional comment.
In the 1998 film Wood played Sally Owens (Sandra Bullock) eldest daughter, Kylie. Sally and her sister, Gillian (Nicole Kidman), are raised by their Aunts, Jet (Wiest) and Franny (Channing), after their parents die, who teach the girls magic.
It was previously known that Bullock and Kidman were reprising their roles in the sequel. New additions to the cast include Joey King (Bullet Train), Lee Pace (Bodies Bodies Bodies), MaisieWilliams (Game of Thrones), Xolo Mariduea (Cobra Kai)and Solly McLeod (The Dead Dont Hurt). The movie is directed by Susanne Bier (The Perfect Couple, Bird Box, In a Better World), with a screenplay co-written by Akiva Goldsman (co-writer of the original film) and Georgia Pritchett (Succession).
Production on the filmis currently underway. Practical Magic 2 is set to release in theaters Sept. 18, 2026.
