Erin Doherty took home the 2025 Emmy Award for best actress in a limited, anthology series or movie for her role in Netflixs Adolescence.

Wow, so its looking like Im just gonna be banging on about Adolescence and Owen Cooper for the rest of my life, which, you know, theres worse things, Doherty said in her acceptance speech. I would love to mention every single person that was involved in making this show because it was the definition of a team effort, but I cant get up here without talking about Stephen Graham and Hannah Walters. You are generosity personified. She added, This is dedicated to my big sister Grace. I wouldnt be here without you. I love you with all my heart.

The Hollywood Reporter (@THR) September 15, 2025 Doherty was nominated alongside Ruth Negga (Presumed Innocent), Deirdre OConnell (The Penguin), Chlo Sevigny(Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story), Jenny Slate (Dying for Sex) and Christine Tremarco (Adolescence).

The award marks her first Emmy win. In Adolescence, Doherty plays clinical psychologistBriony Ariston, who holds the final interview with 13-year-old Jamie Miller (Owen Cooper), who is accused of murder, to assess his mind before trial. Earlier in the night on Sunday, Cooper won an Emmy for best supporting actor in a limited/anthology series or movie. The psychological drama also won for best directing and writing for a limited series.

Doherty previously told The Hollywood Reporter what it was like to work alongside Cooper, especially for his first acting job. I hope that I gave him what he gave me. He just reignited that necessity. I think kids surrender to the moment so much easier than adults do. And it really reignited that love of what I do, and actually the art form in its purest form, she said before later adding, Hes 11 years younger than me, so Ive really witnessed him go through adolescence himself and the hardships of what it means to navigate that world. And I think it was necessary for me to bring that level of hope into our relationship, Briony and Jamies.
