Selling Sunset star Chrishell Stause is leaving the Netflix reality series after nine seasons.
In an interview with Bustle published Friday, Stause announced she would be departing the real estate docuseries centered on the Oppenheim Group, a luxury real estate brokerage in Los Angeles, that debuted on the streamer in 2019.
Ive vacillated back and forth with this decision in the past. I have to be honest having come from nothing, its really hard to turn something like this down, Stause said. She added that Jesus Christ himself couldnt get her to come back for season 10 and alleged that Selling Sunsetcreator Adam DiVello has been calling and texting 100 times a day.
Netflix did not comment.
Ive gotten to a place where I dont need the show financially, she said. Im lucky to have other forms of employment, because its no longer good for my mental health.
Though Stause has been in the middle of various conflicts throughout the show, this season a key storyline centered on Stause and former best friend Emma Hernan having conflicts over Hernans boyfriend, whom Stause has disapproved of for various statements she says he has made.
He compared being nonbinary to having a mental illness, Stause alleges. (Her partner, the musician G-Flip, is nonbinary). He constantly posts anti-trans stuff He thinks its too woke if you dont sing the N-word in songs. He posted something the other day, with a gun in view, saying he wants to sue [mefor lying] my dick off.
Hernan disputed some of the claims on theSelling Sunsetseason nine reunion.
Stause found issue with what was edited this season explaining, I get it, they want to make a light show. And if I was doing a show with less problematic people, I can totally see their point.
With Emma, I just look like an overbearing friend, she added of the shows editing. But there are so many things that wouldve completely vindicated me and my opinion, and they left all of it out.
Stause also noted she has experienced Hernan and her boyfriend breaking up, which led Hernan to tell her horrific things that he would say to her, that he would do. She added, He thought it was funny to say, If you ever do that again, Ill beat you. Who jokes about that? Its not funny.
Despite announcing her exit, Stause says she wishes them the best should the series continue. If they do do another one, by then, I may not watch it, she admitted. I dont know. But I have no ill will toward the show. The show has given me so many opportunities, and I dont want to be bitter about it, even though Im leaving not in the way I wouldve loved.
As for the reunion, in which castmembers gathered to reflect on the ninth season, Stause said she felt herself withdraw during the taping but felt reassured it would be the last time. After so many hours, I felt like, Sit here, get through it. Youre not a quitter, but you never have to do this again. And I promise you, to your soul, you wont, she said.
