Chicago Tonight: The Week in Review: 7/19-February 2024
Feb 15, 2026 12:22 AM

On this edition of Chicago Tonight: The Week in Review with Joel Weisman at 7:00 pm, the Madigan family makes headlines: Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan announces she’ll seek reelection, not run for governor. Her father, House Speaker Michael Madigan, is embroiled in a patronage scandal with ousted Metra CEO Alex Clifford. Also, Republican State Sen. Kirk Dillard jumps into the gubernatorial race. In city news, more squabbling arises between Mayor Rahm Emanuel and Inspector General Joe Ferguson. Chicago Public Schools are hit with a harsh reality as test scores plummet in the wake of tougher testing standards. Moody’s downgrades Chicago’s debt rating due to the city’s massive pension liability. And in sports, the Cubs and White Sox look to reverse their fortunes in the second half of the season.

- Bruce Dold, Chicago Tribune

- Amanda Vinicky, WUIS & Illinois Public Radio
