The family of the late Chicago Bear, Dave Duerson, files a lawsuit against the NFL claiming the league didn’t do enough to protect Duerson from the harmful effects of concussions. The Chicago School Board votes unanimously to close or turn around 17 struggling schools, despite protests from parents, students and teachers. Gov. Pat Quinn delivers a budget address that he says is steeped in reality, as he calls for lawmakers to solve Illinois’ budget crisis. And in sports, Derrick Rose makes a triumphant return to the lineup after sitting for five games with a back injury.
