A Chicago man is accused of pointing a rifle at a man, his fiancee and their three young children during a North Lawndale carjacking late last year.

Sederick Wright, 22, will remain held without bail following his arrest this week on felony charges of armed robbery and aggravated vehicular hijacking stemming from a Dec. 15 carjacking in which he and three others allegedly stole a family’s vehicle at gunpoint.

“This was probably the most terrifying thing these victims ever experienced in their life,” Cook County Judge Ankur Srivastava said during a court hearing Tuesday while explaining why he was denying Wright bail.

Two juveniles have also been charged along with Wright in this case, while a fourth person has not been identified or arrested.

According to Cook County prosecutors, a man who’d been searching for a phone to buy over Facebook agreed to a deal with an account tied to one of the juveniles arrested; the two parties planned to meet up on Dec. 15.

The man drove in his 2005 Chevy Tahoe with his fiancee and their children to an area in the 1400 block of South Trumbull Avenue, where the juvenile had suggested they meet, prosecutors said. Once there, a second juvenile asked the man to get out of the Tahoe while he inspected the phone.

When the man did so, the unknown suspect approached, and a red Mercury SUV pulled in front of the Tahoe, prosecutors said. Wright allegedly exited that SUV with a rifle and pointed it at the man while ordering him to get on the ground.

Wright then pointed the rifle at the chest of the man’s 10-year-old child and ordered them outside, before pointing it at the man’s fiancee and their 7-year-old and 3-year-old children, ordering them out as well, prosecutors said.

Wright allegedly got into the driver’s seat of the Tahoe and drove off, along with the Mercedes SUV.

The two adult victims later searched the Facebook account of the person they’d agreed to meet with and found accounts belonging to another juvenile defendant and Wright, prosecutors said. On one of those accounts, the victims allegedly viewed a video of Wright with the rifle used in the carjacking.

The victims reported the incident to police, who were able to identify Wright using department databases, prosecutors said, and the adult victims were able to identify Wright in a photo array.

Wright is due back in court for a hearing Jan. 18.
