The trailer for Slice, distributor A24's forthcoming slasher film, begins on a note that should tell you exactly why we’re covering it at The Takeout: “I’m gonna tell you a story about a ghost, a werewolf, and a pretty shitty pizza place.”

　　It’s because we just love ghosts at this here food publication.

　　Slice—like a slice of pizza, but also a slice out of your neck? Puns!—comes from Austin Vesley, a filmmaker best known for directing videos for Chance The Rapper (“Angels” and “Sunday Candy”). It stars Zazie Beetz (Atlanta), Joe Keery (Stranger Things), Paul Scheer (everything), and others; it also stars a guy named Chance Bennett, who you might know for his burgeoning music career. They’re employees of Perfect Pizza, which seems to have been built on a hellmouth. There’s killing and sharp claws and howling and green goo and it all looks great.

　　Until this trailer’s release, little was known about Slice, but it seems to indicate a kind of horror-comedy vibe of which we are enamored. Chance plays Dax Lycander, a name of which we are very enamored. And Beetz seems to be on course to be the most ass-kicking member of a crowded cast once again, a situation of which we are most thoroughly enamored.

　　And the pizza looks delicious. I don’t even like pepperoni and I’d eat that pizza, so narrator, you are wrong.

　　Slice has no announced release date, but a representative confirmed it would be arriving this fall. When it does, I will absolutely find a way to justify writing about the pizza—and maybe the goo, if someone eats it—so watch this space.
