Former Cook County judge and prosecutor Patrick O’Brien is running against incumbent Democrat Kim Foxx in the race for Cook County State’s Attorney.

O’Brien has repeatedly attacked Foxx as being too soft on offenders and not pushing enough prosecutions forward — especially in the wake of violence and looting following the death of George Floyd while in Minneapolis police custody.

O’Brien has also persistently criticized Foxx’s handling of the Jussie Smollett case and has been endorsed the by Fraternal Order of Police, which has also repeatedly criticized Foxx.

Foxx was elected state’s attorney in 2016 and is a political ally and protege of Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle. She has also been endorsed by Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot.

O’Brien joins “Chicago Tonight” for a candidate forum; Foxx declined our invitation.
