Mamma Mia! brought in close to $1.6 million in its first week of seven performances, making it the fourth-highest grossing show in the industry last week.
The musical, which opens Aug. 14, played to just over 100 percent capacity at the Winter Garden Theatre with an average ticket price of $148.46.
Other high earners included Hamilton, which brought in $1.7 million in a week that included its 10th anniversary on Broadway celebration, featuring a special Aug. 6 matinee performance, where more than 1,200 attendees were lottery winners who had purchased $10 tickets, and an invite-only evening performance, as well as a block party on the street afterwards. Purpose has continued its upward trajectory after winning the Tony Award for best play and the Pulitzer Prize for drama. The play hit the highest gross of its run last week, bringing in $706,991 and playing to close to 99 percent capacity at the Hayes Theater. The average ticket price reached $154.03.
Best musical winner Maybe Happy Ending also continues to ride the post-Tonys wave, with the show bringing in $1.41 million last week, and playing to more than 100 percent capacity at the Belasco Theatre. Jeff Ross: Take A Banana For A Ride, a one-man show featuring the comic known for his appearances at celebrity roasts, began previews last week and had a slow start, with the show playing to 55 percent capacity at the Nederlander Theatre and bringing in $172,648 across seven performances.
