Late Thursday, a federal judge ordered the Census Bureau to continue its 2020 count until the end of October, reversing the bureau’s decision to stop work this coming Wednesday.

The Trump administration is appealing that ruling. But whenever the count ends, community leaders and elected officials have been making a big push to get the city’s and state’s response rates up. Gov. J.B. Pritzker has been touring Illinois, asking residents to help get the message out.

“Call your friends. Call your neighbors. Send them a text, an email, and urge them to do their part,” Pritzker said during a stop in Carbondale on Thursday. “Just like voting, filling out a census is an act of civic engagement. It’s a demand to be fully heard and fully counted.”
