‘Bachelor’ Meets ‘American Idol’ as Juan Pablo Galavis’ Daughter Auditions for the Judges
‘Bachelor’ Meets ‘American Idol’ as Juan Pablo Galavis’ Daughter Auditions for the Judges
May 20, 2024 8:02 AM

The daughter of former Bachelor star Juan Pablo Galavis is now an American Idol contestant.

Camila Galavis, who was 4 when her father starred on the ABC reality show, is now a freshman in high school and auditioned on Sunday nights episode of the networks singing competition for judges Luke Bryan, Katy Perry and Lionel Richie. Camila, whos from Venezuela, lives in Miami.

Asked if she hailed from a musical family, Camila revealed the identify of her dad, who was on hand at the audition. You know what its like to be on reality television [are] you trying to throw her in this lions den? Perry asked Juan Pablo, who said it was all Camilas idea.

Shes been singing since she was little, and the opportunity came, and she wanted to do it, he said.

He stayed in the room while she sang, with her saying she was more comfortable with him there. (Just make yourself right at home on ABC, Perry quipped.)

Camila sang Rabia, a Spanish-language song by Joaquina, for her audition.

Perrys take: Youve got a good voice. It sounds a little young. Its [got] lots of personality. Its very youthful. Im just looking for some of those notes that could come out and really compete with the other contestants.

Bryans take: Love your confidence, love your personality. Its very listenable. Its very pop. I think your biggest hurdle is the big high notes are still giving you a little bit of trouble. I mean, youre so young. I just dont know if its ready yet.

Riches take: I agree with Luke a little bit here in terms of experience.

Bryan then added: Well, let me say one more thing. I think the right producer right now could take your voice and cut a hit album on you right now. But in this competition, I think youre gonna get swallowed up a little bit.

Ultimately, Richie voted no on sending Camila through to the next round (Take the time and develop your voice, he told her), while Perry and Bryan voted yes.

I think you have a very accessible voice. Yes, it needs a little bit of stretching, she said. Youve got a pop voice. The biggest growing genre in music is Spanish music. You are authentically that, so its a yes for me.

Added Bryan: I wrote no on my page, but then I told you the right producer could make you a hit song, so im giving you a yes just based on that that because youve got a radio tone.

But they sent her home with the golden ticket to the Hollywood round with a couple of words of caution, as Perry told her that she had a lot of work cut out for you, while Bryan noted that she barely made it in.

Juan Pablo Galavis™ (@JuanPaGalavis) March 25, 2024 Bachelor viewers likely remember Juan Pablo for being the shows first Latino star but also generating controversy more than once during his season. While the season was airing, he retweeted a joke that used the word retard. He also said that ABC shouldnt have a gay or bisexual bachelor on the show and called gay people more pervert.

And when he made his final pick of pediatric nurse Nikki Ferrell, many fans were upset when he declined to propose to her, a twist that hadnt happened on the show in seven years. They later broke up.
