Mayor Lightfoot names the city’s next top watchdog: Deborah Witzburg, the former deputy inspector general for public safety. Witzburg has been second-in-command of the inspector general’s office since 2019 under Joe Ferguson, who stepped down as inspector general nearly half a year ago. City Council will vote on Witzburg’s confirmation for a four-year term.

Mayor Lightfoot announced the “Chicago Moves” initiative, which will distribute 12.5 million dollars in prepaid gas cards worth 150 dollars each and transit passes worth 50 dollars each. Pending City Council approval, city residents at least 18 years old and up can apply for the cards on April 27.

WTTW reported on a Scientel Solutions -- a company that had donated big to campaign funds connected to Aurora Mayor Richard Irvin and got lucrative city contracts and legislation. Irvin is backed to the tune of $20 million dollars by the state’s wealthiest resident Ken Griffin. More recently, the examination of further campaign filings and city contracts shows developers that donated tens of thousands to campaign funds connected to Irvin, and his former law partner, stand to receive tens of millions from Aurora taxpayers.
