The Week in Review: Battle Between CPS, CTU Escalates
The Week in Review: Battle Between CPS, CTU Escalates-July 2024
Jul 12, 2026 10:42 PM

On this week’s edition of "The Week In Review" with Joel Weisman, the Chicago Teachers Union escalates the battle with Chicago Public Schools, taking to the streets to protest proposed school cuts.

Chicago Public Schools CEO Forrest Claypool delivers an ultimatum after the CTU bargaining committee unanimously rejects a teacher contract proposal: accept the contract within 30 days or cuts of $100 million are coming, along with the teachers picking up all 9 percent of pension payments.

Meanwhile, Gov. Bruce Rauner jumps into the fray, saying the state should take over CPS. Distrust of Chicago Police is high and Mayor Rahm Emanuel's approval ratings are in the tank. And in sports, the Blackhawks start their second half playoff push.
