The Night Agent viewers are ready to answer the call.

The action-thriller from Sony Pictures TVand Shawn Ryanbecame a breakout hit for Netflix when it released in March 2023. Now, fans of the Gabriel Basso-led spy series are finally finding out when the show will return.

Season two will release Jan. 23, 2025, slightly later than Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos predicted the show would return. The news came with a teaser announcement (below) showing Peter Sutherland (Basso) back on the run and calling the top-secret White House number of which he was initially on the receiving end. Based on the novel by Matthew Quirk, The Night Agent season one centered on then low-level FBI agent Peter, whose efforts to save the president now earn him an opportunity to become a Night Agent in season two. But working in the secretive organization of Night Action will propel Peter into a world where danger is everywhere and trust is in short supply.

In its first month of release, the first season of Night Agent reigned as No. 1 in the Global Top 10 for four consecutive weeks. It went on to become thesecond-most-watched original streaming series in the U.S. 2023 and currently ranks seventh all time among English-language series in the streamers internal rankings (which measure viewing for 13 weeks after a shows premiere).

The show earned a speedy season two renewal days after its release, followed by a season three pickup that was announced last month; production will beginlate 2024 in Istanbul and continue in New York after the new year. (The delay in the shows return is due to the 2023 dual Hollywood strikes.)

When speaking to THR about why he wanted to adapt The Night Agent, creator/showrunner/executive producer Ryan said, I love the idea of an underdog. I love to watch kickass stuff as much as everyone else. But to me, its not as interesting to write the indestructible guy, the John Wicks of the world, the Jason Bournes that can take on 20 people at once. I like the idea of an underdog, someone who is the least important person in a very important place, in this case, a low-level FBI agent who works in a windowless room in the basement of the White House. Everyone around him is more important than him. He stumbles onto this thing and hes suddenly, like in classic Hitchcock movies, somebody who is an ordinary person thrust into an extraordinary situation.
