Music Picks to Get Your Playlist Party-Ready for Hispanic Heritage Month-February 2024
Feb 15, 2026 10:49 PM

Music is an integral part of any celebration – and that includes Hispanic Heritage Month, which officially began this week, and Enchúfate’s Sandra Treviño wants to get you ready to party.

“It’s a way to bring back all the things that we grew up with – the arts, the music, the food,” Treviño said. “Our culture is vibrant. It’s rich. It’s fun. We’re going to be celebrating way past Oct. 15.”

Treviño gave us a few recommendations for recently-released albums to add to your party playlist.

Turbo Sonidero, “Lowrider Kumbias”

Sandra says: “It’s a tribute to the communities he grew up with, low riders and their love of soul music, of oldies. It starts off as an oldie and then all of a sudden comes in and you’re like, what’s happening? And then you start dancing. It’s amazing.”

Daniel Villarreal, “Panama 77”

Sandra says: “He’s put all his talents together in one album – it’s dedicated to his grandmother and the music that he grew up with in Panama, but also combining things that he’s learned along the way as a drummer. I love how Daniel is able to bring a fusion of these different sounds together and it works. It’s a great debut.”

Ritmos TropiCosmos, “Cumbia En La Sierra” and “Con Cuidado”

Sandra says: “It’s a seven piece band out of Oakland who does psychedelic cumbia. In ‘En La Sierra,’ the voices of females that come in – it’s really cute. They’re talking about, ‘when the beans run out, what are you gonna do?’ And that’s the basis of this cumbia song.”
