Strong winds from the north will create dangerous conditions along the shore of Lake Michigan through Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service.

According to the Great Lakes Surf Rescue Project, nearly half of the people who drown in the Great Lakes every year drown in Lake Michigan. There have been 108 Great Lakes drownings in 2020, 57 of them in Lake Michigan.

North winds gusting to 40 to 50 mph will create large waves along the IL and NW IN shores today into Tuesday. Waves of 13 to 17 feet along the NW Indiana shoreline will lead to significant lakeshore flooding and erosion. Lesser impacts expected along the IL shore. #ilwx #inwx pic.twitter.com/8gx6k7pBY1
