Circle Urban Ministries to Host Oct. 29 Concert in Support of Austin Building Explosion Victims-February 2024
Feb 27, 2026 11:15 PM

A building explosion in the Austin community last month left one person dead, several injured and more families without a place to live.

Neighboring organization Circle Urban Ministries is planning a concert to raise funds for those families as they work to rebuild.

Executive Director James Borishade said the concert was originally planned as an advance celebration for Circle Urban Ministries’ new music recording studios and to induct musician Darius Brooks into the Creative Arts Hall of Fame. However, when the explosion happened just two doors down from their campus, the artists agreed to shift the concert’s mission.

“When I shared [news of the explosion] with all of the artists, they said listen, focus on giving the families a good time and helping the families rebuild,” Borishade said. “It’s not just a couple of days after the explosion, but families are in the long haul when it comes to rebuilding. Our goal is to show all the families who were impacted by the explosion that we are here with you.”

The Bridge 22: Independent Artists Showcase will take place on Saturday, Oct. 29, at the Kehrein Center for the Arts,5628 W. Washington Boulevard.
