Welcome to the 258th episode ofTVs Top 5,The Hollywood Reporters TV podcast.
Every week, hostsLesley Goldberg(West Coast TV editor) andDaniel Fienberg(chief TV critic) break down the latest TV news with context from the business and critical sides, welcome showrunners, executives and other guests, and provide a critical guide of what to watch (or skip, as the case may be).
Heres how this weeks episode plays out:
1. Headlines Reba McEntire, George Lopez, Taylor Sheridan, Tracy Morgan, Michelle Yeoh, Formula 1 and Shohei Ohtani lead the weeks top industry headlines.
2. Streaming Bundles
Disney and Warner Discovery are re-creating the cable bundle with the announcement this week that the two conglomerates will package Max, Hulu and Disney+ in the summer.
3. Back to The Office
Dont call it a reboot, but the new version of The Office has landed at Peacock, with the new series set at a dying newspaper (ouch!). Its a good move for Peacock and yet another sign that the mockumentary (see ABCs Abbott Elementary) remains in vogue.
4. Netflix Goes Live
With the roast of Tom Brady and John Mulaneys multiple L.A. gigs all live on Netflix, the media titans live strategy is coming into focus. Whats more, Mulaneys show may be one of the years best programs.
5. Critics Corner
As usual, we end with Dans thoughts on this weeks new and returning series. In this episode, he weighs in on Dark Matter, Black Twitter, Doctor Who, Bodkin and Hollywood Con Queen, among others.
