Amla Candy: A Delicious and Nutritious Treat

Amla candy, also known as Indian gooseberry candy, is a delectable and healthy snack made from the fruit of the Amla tree (Emblica officinalis). Amla, widely recognized for its medicinal properties, is a rich source of vitamin C, antioxidants, and various other nutrients.

Ingredients:

  • 500 grams of fresh Amla (Indian gooseberries)
  • 300 grams of sugar
  • 1 teaspoon of cardamom powder
  • A pinch of saffron strands

Preparation:

  • Wash the Amla thoroughly and remove any impurities or blemishes.
  • Boil water in a large pot and blanch the Amla for about 5 minutes. This step helps in removing the bitterness of the fruit.
  • Drain the water and let the Amla cool down.
  • Once cooled, remove the seeds from the Amla and cut them into small pieces.
  • In a separate pan, add sugar and water in a 1:1 ratio and heat it on low flame until the sugar dissolves completely.
  • Add the Amla pieces to the sugar syrup and cook on medium heat until the syrup thickens and coats the Amla evenly.
  • Stir in the cardamom powder and saffron strands for added flavor.
  • Turn off the heat and let the mixture cool down slightly.
  • Transfer the Amla candy onto a greased tray or plate and let it cool completely.
  • Once cooled, separate the individual candy pieces and store them in an airtight container.
