Chadwick Boseman Steps Down from the Wakandan Throne to Embark on a New Historical Adventure

A Samurai in the Land of the Rising Sun

While Wakanda may be forever, Chadwick Boseman is temporarily stepping down from the throne to secure his next cinematic venture. The acclaimed actor has been cast to portray Yasuke, the first African samurai to wield a sword in Japan. The script for this captivating historical drama will be penned by Doug Miro, known for his work on the popular series "Narcos."

According to Deadline, Erik Feig's Picturestart has joined forces with Mike De Luca's De Luca Productions banner, Stephen L'Heureux's Solipsist banner, and Boseman and Logan Coles' X●ception Content to bring the story of Yasuke to life on the big screen. This intriguing tale takes place in 16th-century Japan, where Yasuke served under the formidable Japanese warlord Oda Nobunaga.

  An Extraordinary Journey

Yasuke, a native of Portuguese Mozambique, was brought to Japan as a slave to Jesuit missionaries. As fate would have it, he became the first black man to set foot on Japanese soil, capturing the attention of Nobunaga, a ruthless warlord with ambitious plans to unite the fractured country under his banner.

A complex relationship developed between these two men as Yasuke earned Nobunaga's friendship, respect, and ultimately, the honor, swords, and title of samurai. This remarkable story is one of history's best-kept secrets, as Yasuke remains the only person of non-Asian origin to achieve the esteemed rank of samurai.

  Boseman's Excitement

Chadwick Boseman expressed his enthusiasm for this unique project, stating, "The legend of Yasuke is one of history's best-kept secrets, the only person of non-Asian origin to become a Samurai. That's not just an action movie, that's a cultural event, an exchange, and I am excited to be part of it."

While Boseman may escape the constant requests for the Wakanda salute with this new role, it remains to be seen whether the fandom for this film will grow just as large, leading to a new wave of fans asking him to swing an imaginary sword at every appearance. Only time will tell.
